ADAM MALIK


Adam Malik was born in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra to Abdul Malik and Salamah Lubis. After completing Junior High School, he received his first job as a shopkeeper, fillling in time by reding books and incrasing his knowledge. Adam malik quickly developed an interest in politics and in the age of just 17, became the Chairman of the Pematang Siantar branch of Partindo. In this position he campaigned for the Dutch Colonia Government to grant independence to Indonesia. As a result of this, he was put in prison for disobeying the Colonial Government's ban on political assemblies. Once he was freed, he left Pematang Siantar for Jakarta. Adam malik played an important rolein the events leading up to Indonesia's Declaration of Independence. Adam Malik had stunning careers. Some of them were the duties of a diplomat, as an ambassador to the soviet union and Poland, as Foreign Affairs Minister, as President of the United Nations General Assembly or MPR, and as a vice president. Because of his service, he has been recognized as a National Hero of Indonesia.
